Staunton State Park in Colorado spans 3,908 acres across Park and Jefferson counties, uniting mountain forests, meadows, streams, a waterfall, and striking rock formations with a preserved historic landscape. The park originated with Frances H. Staunton’s donation of 1,720 acres to be protected permanently for public benefit as a wilderness-type park representing Colorado’s mountain forest and meadow country. Beginning in 1986, the state expanded it with nearby ranchlands, and an additional 80-acre donation in 2015 brought it to its present size. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012, the area reflects a long history of homesteading, ranching, summer resort use, rustic architecture, and the region’s only sawmill.
