Denver V. Truelove was born April 10, 1919, and grew up and was educated in Lula, Georgia. He served as the bombardier and a crewmember on Plane #5 in the Tokyo Raiders mission, where he dropped the first bombs on Tokyo on April 19, 1942. After serving with General James Doolittle, he became known as one of the Doolittle Boys. He died on April 5, 1943, when his plane was hit during a mission over the Mediterranean Sea and went down in the sea, and he was never recovered. His awards included the Purple Heart, Air Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross, American Campaign Medal, Foreign Service Medal WII, the Defense Medal, and the Victory Medal.
