The first well in the East Texas Oil Field was discovered by C. M. (Dad) Joiner in October, 1930, 1.2 miles north of this point, and that discovery led to the development of the largest oil field in America. The site honors the men who envisioned an empire, dared to seek it, and discovered it in the East Texas Oil Field, and it expresses appreciation for the role permitted in the development of the oil and gas industry.
