The Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum in Springfield, Massachusetts, opened in June 2017 in the William Pynchon Memorial Building on the city’s Quadrangle, connecting Theodor Seuss Geisel’s work to his hometown. The building, designed by Max Westhoff and built in 1927 for the Connecticut Valley Historical Society, was later renovated for this new purpose after collections were moved out in 2009. Its immersive exhibits include a Seussian Springfield, material from Geisel’s working life, a recreation of his La Jolla studio, and interactive spaces for art and reading. In 2017, the museum also faced controversy over a mural with a Chinese racial stereotype, which it removed.
