Pine Banks is a 107.5-acre public park spanning Malden and Melrose, Massachusetts, given by former Malden mayor Elisha S. Converse to remain permanently public and still managed jointly by the two cities through equal representation. The land was first used by the Neponset band of the Massachusett people, later held by the Lynde family in the early 18th century, and acquired by the Converse family in 1881. Designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and opened in 1889, the park combines long human history with terrain shaped by volcanic activity, earthquakes, and glaciation, including Mount Ephraim, wetlands, cliffs, and an esker, while continuing to serve as a recreational landscape.
