In the weeks following Market Street's "big fire" of 1908, new brick buildings rose rapidly. This building, erected by R. Rutherford, and its twin on the corner, built by C.J. Sawyer, were completed and occupied before the end of 1908. Crippen & Co. completed the brickwork, and T.H. Leinart Co. did the woodwork. Rutherford opened a furniture store there that also offered carpets and house furnishings. The building later housed the Clinton Furniture Company, The Coffee Mill restaurant, and Parker Jewelry & Furniture Co.
