On this lot lay the tracks and the Mendon depot of the Cincinnati, Hamilton and Dayton railroad. The C. H. and D. operated in Mendon from 1878 to 1923 as a narrow gauge rail, 3 ft. 6 in. wide. It provided local residents a transportation outlet and delivered lumber, grain, and sugar beets, the main sources of the local trade industry of that time, to markets farther away. The rail went locally east to Spencerville and Delphos, and west to Mercer, then south to Celina.
