The first Catholic parish in McCracken County grew from German immigrants who settled in the area about 1839. Father Elisha Durbin said Mass in homes until a log church was built in 1849. A frame church was built in 1869 and used until the present church was dedicated in 1933, and extensive renovation was completed in 2006. The first school on the site was called Spring School and prepared children for sacraments, with priests and lay persons teaching students. The Sisters of Charity operated the grade school from 1900 to 1912, and the Sisters of Mercy served from 1913 to 1992. A high school curriculum was offered from 1938 to 1965, and the grade school closed in 2008.
