In 1994, Wisconsin Governor Tommy G. Thompson signed into law Wisconsin Act 347, designating U.S. Highway 14 west from Richland Center to the Wisconsin state border as the Wisconsin Purple Heart Memorial Highway. The highway is dedicated to all of the men and women who were wounded or gave their lives for the country in time of conflict, under the sentiment that the price of freedom is never free.
