Blanco State Park, a 104.6-acre park along about a mile of the Blanco River at the southern edge of Blanco, opened in 1934 as a carefully shaped public recreation area in the Hill Country. Much of its early character came from Civilian Conservation Corps Company 854, which in 1933 and 1934 built Park Road 23 and added bridges, culverts, retaining walls, dams, picnic facilities, and a concession building now used as a group pavilion. Known for river recreation, native trees, wildflowers, and wildlife, the park also endured a catastrophic Blanco River flood on May 23 and 24, 2015, before repairs allowed it to reopen later that year.
