From 2001 to 2021, this memorial honors the men and women who served the nation and recognizes service members from Marion County who were killed in action: SSgt James D. Bullard of the South Carolina National Guard, killed in Afghanistan, and Gy Sgt Ralph Earl Pate, Jr., of the U.S. Marine Corps, killed in Afghanistan.
