In July 1864, Company D of the 35th Regiment Kentucky Volunteer Mounted Infantry camped north on Houston land. It was mustered at Owensboro on Oct. 2, 1863, guarded the area between the Cumberland and Green Rivers, and was part of the Union force that defeated Confederate States of America Gen. Adam R. Johnson's Partisan Rangers at Grubb's Cross Roads in Aug. 1864. The company also fought at Saltville, Va., and was mustered out at Louisville on Dec. 29, 1864. McLean County recruits in Company D included Chas. W. D. (Frank) Prange, Capt.; Geo. W. Mosley and Jas. T. Goode, Lieuts.; Wm. A. Short, John H. Taylor, and Malvin Presley, Sgts. and Cpl.; and James R. Baughn, Western Mitchell, Joseph F. Baughn, Thomas A. Nally, Allen H. Benton, James D. Nally, Granville Brown, Charles F. Prange, Michael Conley, Remos G. Cary, William L. Roads, Samuel A. Hudson, Mark L. T. Robertson, Hubbard V. Hicks, Lafayette Riley, George L. Jones, Alexander Stogner, John W. Little, James A. Taylor, Lucius L. Mitchell, and William B. Taylor.
