Squire Boone Caverns in southern Indiana combines a lighted cave tour with a working pioneer village and the grist mill Squire Boone established after settling there in 1808. First found by Daniel Boone and Squire Boone in the late 18th century, the cave is known for stalactites, stalagmites, a large chamber, narrow passages, underground water features, and a rimstone formation regarded as the largest in North America and among the world’s largest. The underground stream powers the historic mill, which still operates today. Squire Boone, who died in 1815, was buried near the cave entrance, linking the site closely to Boone family frontier history.
