Founded in 1953, the Cripple Creek District Museum preserves the history of the Cripple Creek District through five historic buildings and collections that reflect both mining work and everyday community life. Its campus includes the 1894 Colorado Trading and Transfer Company building, the 1895 Midland Terminal Depot, an assay office, French Blanche LeCroix’s former one-room home from Midway, and a miner’s cabin dating from about 1890 to 1930. Exhibits on Victorian domestic interiors, mining equipment, photographs, maps, newspapers, businesses, churches, schools, and personal belongings together present the wider gold district as a network of camps and communities, not just a place of extraction.
