Boysen State Park surrounds Boysen Reservoir in central Wyoming, where the Wind River exits Wind River Canyon at the south end of the Owl Creek Mountains. Covering more than 35,000 acres, it grew from the completion of Boysen Dam in 1951 and was established as a state park in 1956. The park’s name recalls Asmus Boysen, who built the first dam here in 1908, and part of that structure still remains visible. Today it is one of Wyoming’s major reservoir parks, known for boating, fishing, and camping amid canyon scenery, with waters that support walleye, sauger, perch, crappie, ling, and several trout species.
