Jared Young Sanders III was born on January 29, 1944, on Avoca Plantation and died on March 23, 1944, in Baton Rouge. Jared Young Sanders served as state representative from 1892 to 1896 and again from 1898 to 1904, was Speaker of the House from 1900 to 1904, lieutenant governor from 1904 to 1908, governor from 1908 to 1912, and congressman for the 6th District from 1917 to 1921. He was associated with progress, good roads, integrity, and the phrase "A Son of Old St. Mary."
