During 1780-1781, in the American Revolution in the West, civilians and soldiers gave their lives while settling and defending George R. Clark's Fort Jefferson and the town of Clarksville, and British-led Native Americans also died attacking this strategic location on land they claimed. The dead at Fort Jefferson and Clarksville included military personnel and civilians, among them named men, women, and children as well as unnamed allies, enslaved people, family members, and soldiers, and the Native American dead included unknown Chickasaw, Lenape (Delaware), and Nishnawbe (Potawatomi) warriors allied to the British.
