Warren Peak
Nature
Warren Peak is a prominent 9,710-foot summit in the Warner Mountains of northeastern California, rising steeply above Surprise Valley within the South Warner Wilderness. The range’s third-highest peak, it has more than 5,100 feet of topographic relief and volcanic slopes, some lined with whitebark pine. A north-facing cirque below the summit holds Patterson Lake, a well-known wilderness destination. The mountain also divides local drainage, with water on its west side flowing toward Pine Creek and the South Fork Pit River, and runoff on the east side reaching Middle Alkali Lake through Owl and Cottonwood creeks. Known in print since at least 1884, it remains valued as a remote, scenic wilderness summit.
