At 65 North Main in Panguitch, a brick building fired in local kilns housed many businesses over more than a century, including Vee Foy’s Scenic Café in the 1930s and 1940s alongside Deward Woodard’s Barber Shop, Hurst Variety Store after its conversion to a five-and-dime in 1946, Orton’s Café by 1950, Foy’s Variety, a retail art gallery operated by local artist Veda Hale from 2005 to 2013, Sunny Patches Boutique, and, beginning in April 2015, A Modern Handcart Company offering goods from emergency supplies to artwork and photography. Another 65 North Main building became home to the Panguitch Drug Company after pharmacist Earl Marshall bought the Panguitch Drug Company from the Carharts in 1920 and moved there from 21 North Main Street, where he had operated Elk Pharmacy; its marble soda fountain became a popular gathering place, Hurst Variety Store occupied the north end for part of its decade in Panguitch before moving to St. George in 1957, the drug company remained there for seventy-eight years before relocating to Center Street in 1998, and afterward Garfield Memorial Hospital opened a volunteer-staffed thrift shop whose proceeds help buy new medical equipment.
