Cosmosphere in Hutchinson, Kansas, grew from a planetarium founded in 1962 into a major space museum and science education center with galleries, theaters, live programming, and interactive STEAM spaces. Its collection of more than 13,000 artifacts includes one of the world’s strongest holdings of American and Russian spaceflight objects, from World War II and Cold War rocketry through the Space Shuttle, the International Space Station, and commercial spaceflight. Notable pieces include Liberty Bell 7, Gemini 10, Apollo 13’s Odyssey, and a Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird. It is also known for spacecraft restoration, film replication work, and as Kansas’s only Smithsonian affiliate museum.
