The Methodist Episcopal Church was established on August 18, 1916, when the Sewanee Fuel & Iron Company conveyed one acre of land to the church. Dedicated in the spring of 1917, its original founders included W. M. Creighton, I. S. Brown, A. R. Curtis, W. R. Bouldin, J. W. Dykes, and C. W. Anderson. The Reverend L. E. Thornton served as the congregation's first pastor. Over time, minor changes and additions have taken place, and it remains Coalmont's oldest church, where people are proud to worship.
