During World War II, four chaplains gave their lives so that others could live when the S.S. Dorchester sank off Greenland on Feb. 3, 1943: Lt. G.L. Fox, Protestant; Lt. A.D. Goode, Jewish; Lt. C.V. Poling, Protestant; and Lt. J.P. Washington, Catholic, united under one God.
