Louisa Jane Cox was a member of the first party to come by ox team through the Pacheco Pass to Merced County. With her family she camped in this grove in 1850 and settled at Cox’s Ferry. She married James J. Stevinson in 1855 and resided in this neighborhood until her death in 1933.
