In 1877, 0.4 miles up this creek, R.D. Hume started the first fish hatchery in Oregon. In 1906, with Frank Colvin as manager, 1.6 million fish were released. In 1926, the state took over the hatchery. In 1935, the state closed the hatchery. In 1939, Bob Knox bought the property. In 1982, the Knoxes rebuilt the hatchery rearing ponds. From 1982 to 1987, over 100,000 smolts were released each year. In 1988, Curry Anadromous Fishermen took over.
