The Perry Turning Mill was once a busy operation whose old dam ruins are all that remain. It originally operated as a sawmill in a joint venture by Aaron Cole and Ezra Perry. Perry bought out Cole's share in the early 1800's, raised the dam, and added a tub wheel. In addition to the sawmill, a blacksmith shop was set up in the cellar and a turning mill on the second floor, where water-powered lathes produced bobbins, butter moulds, and tool handles. In 1820, a flood in the river caused the newly raised dam to back up, covering a neighbor's land in water that ran down Ash Street. This led to a lawsuit, and soon afterward the Perrys abandoned the site and moved their operations to Perryville.
