Table Rock is a prominent mountain on the east rim of Linville Gorge in North Carolina and one of the region’s defining landmarks. Named for its distinctive rock formation, it is valued for scenery, hiking, and especially climbing, with easy access to the summit and cliffs that helped give it a national reputation among climbers in the Southeastern United States. The mountain also drew nineteenth-century botanists including André Michaux and John Fraser, who discovered Fraser’s sedge nearby. Its striking presence influenced regional culture and literature, and after a major wildfire in November 2013, it remained a central natural feature of Linville Gorge.
