Lakeport State Park is a public recreation area on Lake Huron in eastern Michigan, made up of two units on either side of Lakeport in Burtchville Township. The park began in 1938 as Port Huron State Park, with additional land acquired into the 1940s and the present North Unit opening in 1947 after state-funded improvements. The South Unit came from a different past: it had been a United Auto Workers retreat and was the place where the Port Huron Statement was completed and announced in 1962 before the state acquired it in 1965. Today the park is known for camping, picnicking, swimming, and easy shoreline access.
