Potter County, South Dakota Veteran's Memorial
Military
Potter County, South Dakota's veterans memorial honors veterans from the area and lists local American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts in Hoven, Lebanon, and Gettysburg. Dedicated on November 11, 2004, it recognizes service across wars from the Civil War through Operation Enduring Freedom, names those killed in action, prisoners of war, missing in action, and wounded in action, and includes extensive side panels of veterans' names. It is dedicated to all veterans, men and women, in peace or war, declaring that their memories will never die and that they brought honor and freedom to the country and promise to its dreams. An added gratitude plaque dated May 30, 2016, says the memorial preserves remembrance and pays honor and tribute to the veterans whose names are inscribed and to all veterans who have served or will serve in the Armed Forces of the United States of America to safeguard freedom and democracy, while also thanking sponsors, contributors, and the four veterans posts, their members, and auxiliaries who designed and raised funds for it.
