Biry Bridge, located on County Road No. 545 over Hondo Creek, was built of steel and wood with two spans measuring 180 feet and 100 feet. The Alamo Construction Company completed it on January 15, 1921, at a cost of $13,350, and on February 13, 1921, Medina County commissioners inspected and approved it for travel. Until State Highway No. 173 was completed in the early 1950s, the bridge made travel possible between the southern parts of Medina County and Hondo, the county seat, and this route also reached Atascosa and Frio counties. It linked the people of Medina County to their jobs, schools, churches, and to one another, and today it is one of the few surviving structures that represents construction techniques once common in the early twentieth century and symbolizes those necessary connections for people who remember its importance.
