Reconciliation Park honors Amos Owen, Norman Crooks, and Hereditary Chief Ernest Wabasha for their lasting efforts toward reconciliation among all people. It includes a prayer by Amos Owen offered for the thirty-eight Dakota who perished in Mankato in 1862, invoking the Horse Nation in the West, the Elk People in the North, the Buffalo Nation in the East, the Spirit People in the South, the Great Spirit and the Spotted Eagle in the heavens, and Mother Earth below to help in a time of reconciliation. The park's founders included Hereditary Chief Ernest and Vernell Wabasha, Louis G. "Bud" Lawrence, James H. Buckley, Sr., Mankato Mayor Stanley T. Christ, Jim Petersen, Bruce and Sheryl Dowlin, Perry Wood, Jeff Kagermeier, A.I.A., and sculptor Thomas M. Miller, and it was established on September 21, 1997.
