The Congers School opened in 1928 as a high school, drawing students from as far away as West Nyack and Tappan, many of whom traveled by train to Congers Station. As Clarkstown’s schools were centralized and Clarkstown Junior-Senior High School was built, later named Clarkstown North, Congers High School closed in June 1954. The building then became an elementary school: in the fall of 1954, grades K-3 were transferred from the adjacent Congers Elementary School, and by the fall of 1957 all grades K-6 had been moved there. In April 1958, the two-story wooden structure that had served as the hamlet’s elementary school since 1903 was razed.
