Built in 1902 with a $25,000 grant from Andrew Carnegie, Carnegie Library housed the first tax-supported library in Oklahoma. It was the site of the inaugurations of Territorial Governor Frank Frantz in 1905 and 1st State Governor Charles N. Haskell in 1907. The building was the scene of many public and club meetings, and the Betsy Ross Society's women met there to sew Oklahoma's "46th Star" U.S. flag after statehood. The City of Guthrie gave it to the Oklahoma Historical Society in 1969, it entered the National Register of Historic Places in 1971, and it opened as Oklahoma Territorial Museum on Nov. 13, 1973.
