Greenwood Community Memorial honors veterans and firemen for keeping the community free and safe, remembers the service and sacrifices of its citizens, and extends everlasting gratitude to all. Dedicated August 28, 2010, it includes a tribute to veterans centered on the oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, to bear true faith and allegiance to it, and to do so with God’s help, associated with the American Legion, Birmingham-Burd Post 1425, of Greenwood, New York. It also includes a firefighters’ prayer asking God for strength to save lives of every age, alertness to hear the weakest shout, ability to put the fire out quickly and efficiently, commitment to guard neighbors and protect property, and blessing for family if a firefighter must lose his life, associated with The Greenwood Volunteers Fire Co. #1.
