Lucy the Elephant is one of the country's national historic landmarks and America's oldest roadside attraction. In 1969, Sylvia and Edwin Carpenter, co-founders of the Save Lucy Committee, took the first steps that saved Lucy from demolition and led the way to the restoration of the world's largest elephant. Their two decades of service reflected their love of this national treasure.
