Constructed in 1872, this depot served the Boston & Maine Railroad's branch line between Portland and South Berwick, Maine, and stands as an example of Stick-style architecture. During the late 1800s, tourists arriving here were met by stage coach or horse and buggy for onward travel to their destinations. After 1902, passengers used the Atlantic Shore Line Railway's electric trolleys, boarding on Summer Street to travel throughout the area. Soldiers from northern Maine stopped at this station as they were carried to battle during both World Wars. Trains still run on these tracks, and the depot, which now houses local businesses, is one of the last surviving depots of its era on this line.
