Dedicated on May 31, 1999, the Freeman Veterans Memorial honors the brave men and women of the Armed Forces of the United States of America who served at home and abroad so Americans could live in freedom. Built through private contributions from individuals named on it and from friends, relatives, businesses, and organizations, it recognizes those who made the supreme sacrifice in World War I, World War II, and the Korean Action, and it also preserves the names of many local veterans from the Civil War, the Spanish American War, World War I, World War II, the Korean Conflict, the Vietnam Era, the Gulf War, peacetime service, and National Guard and Reserve service. It further remembers people buried in the original Freeman Cemetery from 1886 to 1909, including identified individuals and four unknown remains believed to still lie within the cemetery, and it dedicates honor to community organizations that served military personnel and veterans, including VFW Wilde Post #3728, its Auxiliary, American Legion Weber Hofer Post #248, and its Auxiliary.
