In 1795, Thomas Cotton founded Cottontown after serving as a captain of Hertford County, North Carolina Militia during the Revolution. In 1819, his son Moore Cotton built Bridal House for his only daughter, Elizabeth. The house is architecturally significant and recognized primarily for its construction with unusually large logs measuring about three feet in width.
