On this site stood Hickey Home, from 1890 to 1967. Thomas Hickey, who started as a butcher for Swift & Co., was a member of the County Board of Supervisors for 28 years, was the father of the county road system, was responsible for hospitals, and urged the building of Cow Palace. He bought the home from architect-builder Herbert Maggs.
