St. Croix County was once dotted with one-room country schoolhouses, but all were eventually razed or converted to other uses. Camp Nine School, near Glenwood City, Wisconsin, was one of the last that could still be salvaged. Its name came from Lumber Camp Nine, and it was built in 1902 to serve the camp children. It remained in use, eventually as part of the Glenwood City school district, until the 1957-58 school year. The building stood on land owned by Minnie Forrest, who donated the school to the NR Preservation Society. In 1993, the society moved and restored the school along with one of its original outhouses, donated by Ed Paulus.
