Elwood Haynes was the inventor, designer, and builder of America's first mechanically successful automobile in 1893. On July 4, 1894, seated in America's first car, he made its initial run from this road and starting place. This was also the birthplace of a new era of transportation and the nucleus and beginning of the now gigantic automobile industry.
