Piney Creek Site is a prehistoric rock art site in Piney Creek Ravine State Natural Area in Illinois, centered on a sandstone outcropping and rock shelter. It contains more than 150 petroglyph and pictograph designs, the largest concentration known at a single site in Illinois, arranged in four groups within the shelter. Most images were created during the Late Woodland and Mississippian periods, from 450 to 1550 A.D., with some added later. The imagery includes human and animal figures and abstract symbols, often shown in motion. A spear-holding human figure about 1 meter tall is the largest individual petroglyph in Illinois, and the shelter is thought to have had religious and spiritual significance.
