While A.P. Hill's Division moved up to take over Jackson's front line, Rodes' and Colston's divisions, intermingled by their rapid advance, fell back to regroup. Jackson's shattered left arm was amputated here early on May 3. He was then taken south to Guiney's Station, where he died on May 10 of pneumonia.
