Mogollon Baldy is a prominent high peak in the Mogollon Mountains of western New Mexico, rising about 10,774 feet within the Gila National Forest and the Gila Wilderness. Its summit marks the boundary between the Wilderness Ranger District and the Glenwood Ranger District. As one of the taller mountains in the range, it helps define the rugged upland landscape for which the Gila is known. The area around the mountain was heavily affected by the Whitewater-Baldy Complex Fire in 2012, the largest wildfire in New Mexico history, linking the peak to both the region’s dramatic elevation and its recent ecological transformation.
