William (Billy) E. Stulce of Daisy, Tennessee, a U.S. Navy LTJG, gave his life in the performance of his duty on September 18, 1945, when his F6F Hellcat fighter plane caught fire during a routine mission and crashed about three miles east of Altamont in Gruetli.
