By the mid-1900's, innovations in using precast and prestressed concrete for bridge decks produced longer, stronger spans while requiring less material. A previous bridge at this site was the first bridge of this type constructed in North Dakota, and it was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. The current bridge, built in 2001, is 259 feet long with prestressed concrete box beams and a cast in place concrete deck.
