Rogers Island was a bivouac area for Major Robert Rogers and his ten Ranger Companies during the French and Indian Wars from 1755 to 1759. It was also the site of Fort Nicholson in 1709, Fort Lydius in 1731, Fort Lyman in 1755, and Fort Edward in 1757, and served as the general headquarters of the North American British Expeditionary Forces from 1755 to 1759.
