Flattop Mountain
Nature
Flattop Mountain is a summit in North Carolina’s High Country near the village of Sugar Mountain, entirely within Pisgah National Forest. Rising to about 4,997 feet, it is sometimes mistaken for part of neighboring Sugar Mountain because of their close proximity. The mountain lies on an important hydrologic boundary: the Eastern Continental Divide crosses it, with most of its streams flowing directly into the Linville River while its north slope drains through Flattop Creek into the Elk River. Its summit is also the site of the Linville Ridge Golf and Country Club, which operates from late spring to early fall.
