White Oak Mountain is a long ridge of the Ridge and Valley Appalachians running through southeastern Tennessee into northwestern Georgia. Part of a chain of parallel ridges in the Tennessee Valley, it extends from the north side of Ringgold Gap to just south of Georgetown and continues south as Taylor Ridge. Averaging about 1,368 feet above sea level, with a high point of 1,495 feet, it has been important less as a peak than as a corridor. Natural and engineered gaps carry major roads, rail, and interstate traffic, and Ringgold Gap was also the site of an 1863 Civil War battle.
