The Thomas Viaduct was commenced on July 4th, 1833, and finished on July 4th, 1835. It was designed by Benjamin H. Latrobe, with Johnathan Knight serving as chief engineer, Caspar W. Wever as superintendent of construction, and John McCartney of Ohio as builder.
