This land is the traditional territory of the Tsankupi. Land acknowledgements are a way people insert awareness of Indigenous presence and land rights into everyday life, often at the beginning of ceremonies, lectures, and education guides. They can be an explicit yet limited way to recognize the history of colonialism and first nations, as well as the need for change in settler-colonial societies. A map associated with Native Lands is intended for educational purposes, is imperfect, and does not represent official or legal boundaries of any Indigenous nations; definitive boundaries should be learned from the nation.
